Roger May

My name is Roger May and I am currently the Financial Secretary for I.B.E.W. Local Union #130 in New Orleans, Louisiana. I was born on August 26, 1942. I am a second generation of Local #130 members.

My office handles all of the Financial Secretary duties, such as processing dues, dispensing dues into various other funds, paying per capita, processing pension applications, paying sick relief claims, keeping records for all members, financial investments, along with many other accounting procedures. In addition, we have seventeen (17) tenants in our building, and we maintain all building maintenance. We also rent our hiring hall "The Alexander Room" for weddings, dances and parties. Without the assistance of my two secretaries, I could not manage it.

I was initiated on July 10, 1964, and I completed my term of Apprenticeship in 1968. I served on the Election Committees in 1968 and 1970. I served on the Examining Board from 1972 until 1978, chairing the same from 1975 until 1978. I was elected Treasurer from 1984 until 1987. In 1987 I was elected to the Executive Board, and I was appointed Assistant Business Manager by Business Manager, Joseph G. Pardo. I served in that position until his death in 1991. In 1990, I was also appointed Treasurer. After the death of Business Manager Joseph G. Pardo and President A. J. Lavie, IV, I was appointed Financial Secretary. I was re-elected in 1993 and 1996.

I have been a member in good standing for better that 33 years. I have served the Local Union in many capacities during my career. I worked out of the local during the summers of my Jr. and Senior years in high school. Except for a short time in college (2 years) and a short time in the Army, my whole employment career has been in the I.B.E.W. Everything that I have in life, the I.B.E.W. has given to me. I have a quote that goes "There is God, my Family and my Yellow Ticket. I believe that sums up my feeling towards life in general and whatever I can do to further the I.B.E.W. interests I am more than happy to do. I know that I am not alone in my feelings and I welcome all new members to share in what the I.B.E.W. has to offer.

Thank you I.B.E.W.

Roger May
