My name is Mike Emig, Jr., a 2nd generation I.B.E.W. Local #130 member. After graduating from Holy Cross High School in 1977, I spent 2 years in college. During this time I was introduced to the labor movement first-hand as a member of the Laborers International Union of North America where I worked until 1982 when I began my apprenticeship training with the I.B.E.W.. In 1996, I completed my Apprenticeship and have worked as a Journeyman Wireman since that time.
Growing up in an I.B.E.W. household had shaped my opinions about the "lot" of the working man and in 1990 I entered politics in the Local Union. In 1993, I was elected to the Executive Board and subsequently re-elected to the Executive Board in 1996 and am currently the secretary of the Executive Board.
The Local has offered me educational opportunities which I have taken advantage of, including union steward training and safety courses. Currently I am employed by the Local as an Organizer. I have attended numerous Organizing Seminars and am constantly in training in my day to day duties as an Organizer.
My job is to educate the "open shop" electrician about the benefits of union representation and to show these individuals their rights as workers under the laws.
The days can be long and the battles tough but I am on a mission. The mission is to raise the standards in the electrical industry.
I look forward to talking to anyone at any time, your place or mine. Hope to meet you soon.
Michael J. Emig, Jr.
